Joe Spencer, of Pioneer, went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2009. He was 35 years old.
Joe was raised in the Galt area and graduated from Galt High School in 1991. In 1993, Joe received a double-lung transplant at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles. Joe's strength and determination to fight for his health were inspiring. At 15 years post-transplant Joe was one of the longest living double-lung transplant survivors.
Joe was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friends. He was a natural mechanic and throughout the years worked with Grose Racing in Lodi. He loved working on and driving anything that went fast, including cars, motorcycles and drag boats. He always had something in the garage he was rebuilding or tinkering with. Joe raced drag boats and was so proud when he won the World Finals in November, 2001.
Joe was blessed to have two amazing daughters who brought him joy and the motivation to continue fighting for his health. Joe is remembered by his daughters, Tracy Joe (TJ) Spencer and Lauren Spencer; stepdaughter, Whitney Magana; parents, Tim and Mary Spencer; siblings, Renee' Hansen and her husband Scott Hansen, Tamara Spencer and Brad Spencer; grandmothers, Patricia Spencer and Margie Whiteley; as well as his loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to visit Saturday, April 4th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Friends are also invited to a Celebration of Life Saturday, April 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., Lodi, CA 95240. Committal will be private.
